THE MAKING OF A NEWSMAN

Fresh from university with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, my very first ‘solo’ stint as a journalist was with Manila’s DWXB-102.7 FM radio.

 

While the composition of the News Team was of very young graduates of Journalism, Communication Arts or Mass Communication, the various divisions of the station were actually being run by broadcast veterans: Bong Lapira — who became popular as a Newscaster for Channel 5 TV’s “The Big News”- and later GMA 7 News, was the Station Manager; Ver dela Cerna — likewise of Channel 5, was the Production Manager.
